NABA-Broward County Butterfly Chapter

The Broward County Butterfly Chapter (BCBC) of the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) is a membership-based not-for-profit organization.

The Mission of North American Butterfly Association is to increase public enjoyment and conservation of butterflies; making butterflies important to a growing number of people and creating a constituency that works to conserve butterflies and their habitats.  NABA achieves its goals through promoting conservation of butterflies and the habitat they need to survive.

The Vision of the Broward County Butterfly Chapter is to champion healthy butterfly populations thru research, field work, education, conservation and habitat restoration programs. The Chapter supports activities that highlight the importance of these lepidoptera in biodiversity, ecology and food supply.

BCBC monthly chapter meetings, field trips and events to engage people with butterfly people and programs.

The chapter works with individuals and/or organizations that wish to promote, design, maintain and restore butterfly habitat. We provide resources for native host and nectar plants for our iconic winged creatures to brood in developed Broward County.

Our citizen science groups collect data annually under NABA butterfly counts for use in scientific research for the purpose of butterfly conservation.

Our members, friends, volunteers, citizen scientists work with scientists, biologists, educators, administrators and local growers work together to save the imperilled butterfly populations for the next generation.

Participation in fieldwork engages the next generation by getting outside and observing and recording butterfly sightings using online applications and butterfly books.

Visiting museum exhibits highlighting the lifecycle of the butterfly identifying eggs, caterpillars and pupa on larval host plants.

We do this work with a mindfulness of the NABA presidents saying, “if we can help save the butterflies- we may just be able to save ourselves”.

We support NABA’s mission to educate and preserve these wild creatures for future generations.
